a+b do a work in 8 days;

therefore a+b one day work = 1/8

b+c do the work in 12 days; therefore b+c one day work = 1/12

a+b+c do the work in 6 days; therefore a+b+c one day work = 1/6

From above we have a+b=1/8.............(1)

b+c=1/12.............(2)

a+b+c=1/6..................(3)

Now putting the value of a+b in equation (3), we get 1/8+c=1/6

c= 1/6-1/8=1/24; therefore c=1/24.

Putting the value of c in equation (2) we get, b+1/24=1/12

b=1/12-1/24; therefore b=1/24, now putting the value of b in equation(1) we get

a+1/24=1/8, a=1/8-1/24

therefore a=1/12

Therfore a+c=1/12+1/24 =3/24=1/8

a+c one day's work is 1/8

Therefore a+c can do the whole work in 8 days.
