To construct a ray diagram, we use two light rays which are so chosen that it is easy to know their directions after reflection from the mirror. List these two rays and state the path of these rays after reflection. Use these rays to locate the image of an object placed between centre of curvature and focus of a concave mirror.(All India - 2012)

Reflection and ray diagram of concave mirror

Explanation:

Reflection

It is the bouncing of light rays on striking the surface .

Characteristics of Best reflector

It should have shiny, polished and smooth surface .

Mirrors

The types of mirror :

  • Concave mirror
  • Convex mirror

Concave mirror

In it there are certain rules to be followed to obtain image :

1st case : The ray coming parallel to principal axis , after reflection passing through focus .

2nd case : The ray coming from Center of curvature , passes straight .

3rd case : The ray passing through focus after reflection becomes parallel to principal axis .

Lets see the  image formed when object is placed between Center of curvature and focus of concave mirror .

Image is formed beyond C , Image is real , inverted and magnified .

The ray diagram is given .
