To copy the character format, click the Format painter button.

Explanation:

First, select the format of the characters that you need to copy. Click on the 'format painter' option in the 'Home tab' of the clipboard group. After clicking the button pull the 'mouse pointer' to apply the format to the text which you want to.  

It is also helpful to copy character formatting from one to another document. By double-clicking the format painting option also applies the same format and you can be able to use those format until pressing format painter one time or Esc that turns off the format painting option.
