The speed of train a is 156 km/hr.

Explanation:

Given that,

Distance = 416 km

Let the speed of train a is v and b is v'.

For train a,

Time is

t'=t+\dfrac{8}{3}

We need to calculate the speed of train a

Using formula of time

t'=\dfrac{d}{v}

Put the value into the formula

t+\dfrac{8}{3}=\dfrac{416}{v}....(I)

If the speed of a is doubled it will take \dfrac{4}{3}\ hr less than  b

For train b,

The time is

t'=t-\dfrac{4}{3}

Using formula of time

t'=\dfrac{d}{v}

Put the value into the formula

t-\dfrac{4}{3}=\dfrac{416}{2v}....(II)

Now, from equation (I) and (II)

\dfrac{8}{3}-\dfrac{4}{3}=\dfrac{416}{v}-\dfrac{416}{2v}

\dfrac{12}{3}=\dfrac{832+416}{2v}

v=\dfrac{832+416}{8}

v=156\ km/hr

Hence, The speed of train a is 156 km/hr.
