Cobalt chloride paper is actually blue in colour but in the presence of water vapour the blue colour turns pink.So in experiments to prove the process of transpiration cobalt chloride paper is used.If transpiration takes place the blue colour turns pink.

Cobalt chloride paper is a pink colored paper but when it comes in contact with water , the color turns from pink to blue due to the hydration of cobalt chloride deposited on papers.

Explanation:

In the experiment to check the rate of transpiration, we place one cobalt chloride paper on upper surface of leaf and other on lower surface .

After this, the plant is placed in sunlight, After some time, we find out that the color of the papers changes to blue from pink.

As more blue color appear on lower surface than the upper one, this shows that more transpiration occur on lower surface than the upper one.

It also illustrates that more stomata are present on lower surface than the upper one.
