Answer:

ollowing are the ways to obtain the focal length of the concave mirror:

A concave mirror is defined as the spherical mirror whose reflecting surface is curved inwards and follows laws of reflection of light.

The light rays coming from a distant object can be considered to be parallel to each other.

If the image formed is real, inverted and very small in size, then the parallel rays of light meet the point in the front of the mirror.

The image formed by the convex lens is real and can be obtained on the screen.

f is used to denote the difference between the principal axis P and the focus F of the concave mirror.

Aim :-

To determine the focal length of a mirror by  distance of image and object.

Materials :-

A meter scale

A concave mirror

Mirror/lens stand

Screen

Object (say  candle)

Procedure :-

  1. Arrange the mirror on the mirror stand.
  2. Place the meter scale such that 0 lies where the mirror is.
  3. Place the screen in a particular distance from the mirror.
  4. Place the object in between screen an the mirror.
  5. Adjust the object and the screen till the sharp image is formed.

We then can use the mirror formula.

\frac{1}{f} =\frac{1}{v} +\frac{1}{u}\\\frac{1}{f} =\frac{v+u}{uv}\\f=(\frac{v+u}{uv})^2\\f=\frac{uv}{u+v}

Precautions :-

  1. Make sure the image on the screen is sharp.
  2. Make sure 0 on meter stick is corresponding to the mirror stand.
  3. Do not burn yourself with candle.
  4. Make sure to have fire extinguisher near in case of fire.
