To divide a line segment AB of measure 18 cm, in the ratio 3 : 7, what
is the maximum number of points marked on the ray AX at equal
distances ? Also find the measure of each part of AB.

To find : Minimum number of points marked on a ray AX at equal distances

Solution:

Total number of points required are 3 + 7 = 10

Step 1 : Draw given line segment AB  = 18 cm

Step 2 : Draw a Ray AX at an acute angle at AB

Step 3 : Mark 10 point at equal distances starting from A

Step 4 : Draw a line segment joining 10th point with B

Step 5 : Draw a line parallel to line segment drawn in step 4 such that it passes through 3rd point on ray AX and intersect AB at C

AC : CB = 3 : 7

Minimum 10 points are required to be marked on a ray AX at equal Distance to divide  a line segment AB in the ratio 3 : 7

AC = (3/10)18  = 5.4 cm

CB = (7/10)18  =12.6 cm
