Step-by-step explanation:

Given To do a work 3 men takes 5 days less than 9 boys. 3 boys and 2 men can do the work in 6 days. If man works at half efficiency and boy works  at twice efficiency then in how many days the work will be completed by one man and one boy?

Please give detail solution of the question

  • According to the question 3 boys and 2 men can do the work in 6 days.
  • Let a man who does the work in one day be p and the boy who does the work in one day be q.
  • So total work will be 3 x 6 x q + 2 x 6 x p
  •                                      = 18 q + 12 p
  • Days taken by 9 boys will be 18 q + 12 p / 9
  • Now days taken by 3 men will be 18 q + 12 p / 3
  • 18 q + 12 p / 3 = 18 q + 12 p / 9 – 5 (since 5 days less)
  • 18q + 12 p / 3 – (18 q + 12 p) / 9 = - 5
  • 54 q + 36 p – 18 q – 12 p / 9 = - 5
  • 36 q + 24 p = - 45
  • 12 (3q + 2p) = - 45
  • Or 3q + 2p = - 15 / 4
  • Now work is - 15 / 4 but work will not be negative
