to enable students to communicate feelings of 'happiness'.
Answers
There are two parts of this task. The first is to help students identify sources or causes of happiness. Once that is done, they can be taught to communicate the feelings of joy.
1. Identifying what gives them happiness:
a. Give them situations and ask them to identify the feelings.
b. Ask the students to list 3 things/events that made them smile in the past week.
2. Enabling them to communicate their feelings:
a. Using only a few words- Give the students a list of words and phrases related to happiness. The words could include surprise, gift, enjoy, singing, wonderful feeling and so on. Get them to fill in the blanks using these words, so that they know the context in which the words are used.
b. Connecting the words to their own experiences- Ask the students to look at the previous task (where they listed what made them smile). Then ask them to write the words that are applicable to those experiences.
c. Sentence formation- Next get them to form sentences using these words and their experiences.
It is important to give the students the tools (words/vocabulary) to communicate.
