So that air should not enter the jar and medium inside the bell jar must become air-free.

Good evening friend!
Vaseline is applied to the brim of the jar in the bell-jar experiment because it is involved in all the joints in the experimental set-up, thereby making the set-up air-tight, to prevent any extra CO2 from air interfering with the experimental results.

Thank you!
Hope my answer helps you!

pranaymayal17: what happens then
VIKRAMsingh99: Then air inside the jar will be CO2
pranaymayal17: to usse transpiration ka kya relation he
adiraghosh: The extra CO2 coming in helps the plant to photosynthesise.
adiraghosh: And also moisture enters along with air
adiraghosh: which can interfere with the result that plants transpire and release water vapour.
