Steps are given below to find the refractive index of oil and water by using plane mirror and equiconvex lens.

Explanation:

Steps are:

  1. Take a stand hold the needle at the focus of convex lens and place the convex lens upon the plane mirror.
  2. Through this the image will form inverted bu of same magnification at the point where object is placed.
  3. u and v have same value. Now, put the water to check its refractive index.
  4. The value of V changes which changes the position of image.
  5.   Now,      Refractive index = \frac{u}{v}
  6. Do same with oil to get refractive index of oil.
