Given

Amount of SO3 to be obtained = 11.2 litre.

To find :-

Amount of SO2 required.

Reaction :-

2SO2 + O2 = 2SO3

Concept :-

  • This type of problem is solved by unitary methods.

  • 1 mole of a gas occupies 22.4 lit at STP.

Calculations :-

From reaction, we observe that

=> 2 moles of SO2 produce 2 moles of SO3.

=> 1 -----------------------------------1---------------------

=> 22.4 lit of SO2 produces 22.4 lit of SO3.

Hence, 11.2 lit of SO3 is produced by 11.2 lit. SO2 at STP.
