Relationship between voltage & number of turns in a transformer:

Explanation:

  • When a transformer is set to a self-designed transformer then the ratio of output voltage in the secondary coil and the input voltage in the primary coil is equal to the ratio of output current in the secondary coil to the input current in the primary coil.

        \displaystyle \frac{V_o}{V_i}=\frac{I_o}{I_i}                           ...(1)

        where

         Vo = output voltage

          V_i = input voltage

          Io = output current

          I_i = input current

  • The ratio of the number of turns in the secondary coil and the number of turns primary coil is equal to the ratio of output current in the secondary coil to the input current in primary coil.

       \displaystyle \frac{N_o}{N_i}=\frac{I_o}{I_i}                             ...(2)

       where

       No = number of turns of the secondary coil

       Ni = number of turns of primary coil

       Io = output current

       I_i = input current

  • from equation (1) & (2)

        \displaystyle \mathbf{\frac{N_o}{N_i}=\frac{V_o}{V_i}}

  • Hence, the ratio of the number of turns in the secondary coil and the number of turns primary coil is equal to the ratio of output current in the secondary coil to the input current in the primary coil.
