Abraham Lincoln failed in business at the age of 21. He overcame the death of his sweetheart at the age of 26. He had a nervous breakdown at the age of 27. He lost congressional race at the age of 34 and lost a senatorial race at the age of 49. at last he was elected as the president of the United States at age 52. Eventhough he faced many hardships and problems he didn't give up , instead he kept on trying. To Lincoln defeat was detour but not a dead end.

To Lincoln, defeat was a detour not a dead end

Means he never thought a failure(defeat) as the dead end of his life.

He knew he have a lot to do.and this defeat is not the thing that stop his success

He instead thought defeat as the teacher who teaches him to not travell in wrong ways, and defeat teaches him to travell in correct path and improve him in that aspect
