Try using these steps:

Step 1 - Whereas if the statement is negative (like the given sentence), the question tag will be positive.  If the sentence is positive, the question tag to be used will be negative. Example - To my surprise, they did not answer in the affirmative and motivate me, did they?

Step 2 - Make sure to make the sentence interrogative by adding a question mark in the end.

Step 3 - Use weak verbs like 'isn't' instead of 'is not' or 'didn't' instead of 'did not'.
