To observe the growth if seedlings with manure and fertilizer
Answers
Aim: To observe the effect of manure and fertiliser on the growth of seedlings.
Materials Required
Some gram or moong seeds, water, three small pots, soil, cow dung manure, urea, a small piece of cotton cloth and a bowl.
Theory
Soil supplies mineral nutrients to the crop. These nutrients are essential for the growth of plants. Fertilisers are chemical substances while manure is an organic substance obtained by the decomposition of plants or animal wastes. These mineral nutrient substances are frequently used for the better yield of crop.
Procedure
(1) Take some gram or moong seeds and soak them in water overnight.
(i) On the next day, we tie the soaked gram seeds in a wet cotton cloth and put in a bowl containing a little water. The set-up is left undisturbed for two days till they germinate.
(iii) Take three equal sized seedlings out of these.
(iv) Now take three pots and mark them ‘A’ 'B' and 'C'. (u) Take some soil in pot 'A'.
(vi) Put little amount of soil mixed with a little cow dung manure in pot 'B'.
(vii) In pot 'C' put some amount of soil mixed with a little urea (fertiliser).
(viii) Now place the seedlings in each of the pot and pour the same amount of water in each pot.
(ix) Keep them in a safe place and water them regularly.
(x) Observe the growth of seedlings after 7 to 10 days.
Observations
(1) The plant in the three pots grew at different lengths.
(ii ) The plant in pot 'C' grew the fastest, followed by the plant in pot 'B'. The growth of the plant in pot ‘A’ is the least.
Conclusion
Fertilisers are relatively better than manures for growth of plants.
Precautions
(1) Fertilisers and manures should be used in appropriate amount.
(ii) Plants should be watered equally.
(iii) Keep the seedlings in proper sunlight.
Answer:
On mixing manure with soils helps to retain moisture levels and make nutrients available to plants.
Explanation:
Aim: To observe the growth of seedlings with manure and fertilizer.
Procedure:
- Take moong or gram seeds and then germinate them.
- Take three equal-sized seedlings from them.
- Now, take three glasses of same size.
- Label them as A, B and C.
- To glass A, add some amount of soil mixed with a cow dung manure.
- In the glass B, put the same amount of soil mixed with a little urea (fertilizer).
- To glass C, add same amount of soil and don't add anything else.
- Now, pour the same amount of water in each glass and then plant the seedlings in them.
- Keep them in a safe place and water them daily.
- After 7 to 10 days, observe their growth.
Observation:
- The growth of plant in the three glasses grew at different lengths.
- The growth of the plant in the glass C will be least.
- The plant in the glass B grew the fastest followed by the plant of glass A.
Conclusion:
Fertilizers are better than manures for the growth of the plant.
