Answer:
Participation undoubtedly is more important than winning. Without participation one can never hope to win. All the great achievers or winners of the world have been men and women who just kept trying again and again. Success never happens on first attempt or in fact many initial attempts.
Ebright’s talent was activated when he participated in a county science fair. He did not win any prize; most participants won prizes. He realized he would have to show a working real experiment, not just show slides under his microscope.
This participation urged him on to do better in the coming science fairs. He certainly did better and won prize. He tried to find the cause of a viral disease that killed monarch butterflies.
