because microorganisms grow in humidity and warm temperatures. but refrigerator is a cool place where there is no humidity and warmness which prevents microorganism's growth.this is why food is preserved in refrigerator for longer times.

The food is kept in refrigerator to keep them fresh for a longer period of time because the temperature inside the refrigerator is very low.

The microorganism that are found in food that spoil the food stay alive at room temperature and they cannot survive at low temperature.

To protect the food from spoilage they are kept at low temperature so that it cannot grow at such temperature and they die.

In this way the food is kept fresh for a longer duration of time.
