A Face in the Dark by Ruskin Bond is quite different form his other books which mainly focus on creating an empathy within the reader to the needs of the animals and living with them in harmony. In this story, he focuses on supernatural elements.

The protagonist in the story is an educated, Anglo-Indian teacher with western beliefs.

But even he is moved by the boy and the watchman’s distorted faces.

The story evokes a feeling of thrill and anticipation using supernatural elements.
