Take a glass of water put a spoon in it . What do you observe ? You will observe that the level of water rises .

Now , remove the spoon and add a spoon of sugar in the water and stir well . What do you observe ? The sugar disappears but the level of water does not rise . Where the sugar particles disappear ? The sugar particles being smaller get adjusted Between the water molecules ( particles ) . This shows that particles of matter have interparticle or Intermolecular space between them .
