Solution :

Cloth needed to stitch 1 shirt

= 2m 15cm

= 2 × 100 + 15

= 215cm

(Since, 1m = 100cm)

Cloth available = 40 m = 4000 m

No.of shirts we can stitch :

= $\dfrac{Total \:cloth\: available}{cloth\:needed\: to\: stitch \:a\: shirt}$

=> $\dfrac{4000}{215}$

=> 18.6046511628

=> 18

Cloth required to stitch 18 shirts

= 18 × 215cm = 3870 cm

Cloth remains = 4000 - 3870 = 130cm

Answer :

18 shirts can be stitched from 40 m cloth.

Remaining cloth = 130 cm or 1 m 30 cm
