To stop a boat or a ship engine is back fired in opposite direction. why is it difficult to stop a boat or ship?​

Fluids, such as liquid and gas, also exert a frictional force on the body moving through them. However, the frictional force due to water on the body moving through them is much less than the frictional force between any two solid surfaces. Thus, it is difficult to stop boats.
