To the 3 solutions listed below a few drops of phenolphthalein, methyl orange and blue litmus solution were added separately. Specify the color change in each case, if any
a) Sodium carbonate
b) Nitric acid
c) Sodium chloride

(a). Sodium carbonate -> (i) colour changes to pink in phenolphthalein .

                                         (ii) colour changes to yellow in methyl orange .

                                         (iii) no change in colour is observed in blue litmus paper.

(b). Nitric acid -> (i) colourless solution in  phenolphthalein .

                           (ii) colour changes to red in methyl orange .

                           (iii) colour of blue litmus paper is changed to red.

(c). Sodium chloride -> (i)  colourless solution in  phenolphthalein .

                                      (ii) colour changes to yellow in methyl orange .

                                      (iii) no change in colour is observed in blue litmus paper.
