In my opinion an individual can be shaped by society till they get something close to what they want even though they still won't be completely satisfied. It depends until what extent the individual will let them bend him till.

From birth our behaviour, comprehension of the world and beliefs are transmitted by direct care givers, then society which has shaped itself to survive in the surrounding environment. From age 7 we begin to form our own world within our social environment but it is 99–100% even if that socialization is with animals.
