To what extent we should try to improve a mathematical model?

It depends on which subject you are studying. If you are studying a Model on theoretical physics,or computational physics Then it has to be inch perfect or should I say famto meter perfect. But if you are studying ever changing phenomenon like wheather or financial markets or financial derivative then it is quite ok if the Model gives a very good rough idea about the future.
