Robert Mugabe belonged to the ZANU- PF party in Zimbabwe. He served as the president of Zimbabwe for a long span of 30 years, from 1987 till the year 2017. He was a very popular president but also used many unfair practices in elections and his party won the elections every time. His party changed the constitution several times to increase the powers of the president and make him less accountable. Oppostion party workers were severely harassed. Public protests against Mugabe were also considered illegal. Also, television and radio were controlled by the president. Government even harassed those journalists who wrote against Mugabe. There was no right to criticize the President. And finally, the government ignored some court judgements against it. Due to these unfair practices of the president, Robert Mugabe was very popular.
