The answer is to prevent addiction of tobacco.
Use of ‘Mishri’ (Tobacco containing teeth cleaning powder) is very common amongst the people of central and southern part of India.
Mishri is prepared by roasting tobacco leaves, that has alkaloid nicotine in range of 1 to 7%. It is also called as ‘Masherior,’ or ‘Misheri’. It does not contain anything other than tobacco leaves.
So, people might develop an addiction towards tobacco in the long run.

We can't use tobacco mashering for cleaning teeth because it can stain your teeth and there is a risk of dental cancer. 5
