Given :

  • The hypotenuse of a right triangle is 17 cm long.
  • If one of the remaining two sides is of length 8 cm.

To Find :

  • Find the length of third side ?

Solution :

  • Let the third side be x.

Using Pythagoras Theorem :

➣ (h)² = (a)² + (b)²

➣ (17)² = (8)² + (x)²

➣ 289 = 64 + (x)²

➣ 289 - 64 = (x)²

➣ 225 = (x)²

➣ √225 = x

➣ x = 15cm

Hence,

  • The length of third side is 15cm.
