According to the question:

Tom and Hazel share a prize of $153,000 between them in the ratio 7:10.

Hence, the prize of $153,000 is divided into 17 equal parts. (7 + 10)

Therefore tom gets 7x parts of the prize, and Hazel gets 10x parts of the prize.  (Where x is a positive number)

⇒ Tom's share + Hazel's share = Total amount.

⇒ 7x + 10x = 153,000

⇒ 17x = 153,000

⇒ x = 153,000/17

x = 9000

⇒ Tom's share of the money = 7x = 7(9000) = $63000

⇒ Hazel's share of the money = 10x = 10(9000) = $90000

Now, Hazel shared her part of $90000 with herself, her mother & her daughter in the ratio 6:1:1.

This means that the money with Hazel has been divided into 8 equal parts. (6 + 1 + 1)

Therefore, Hazel has 6y parts of the money, her mother & her daughter have y parts of the money respectively.

(Where y is a positive number)

⇒ Hazel's share + Mom's Share + Daughters Share = 90000

⇒ 6y + y + y = 90000

⇒ 8y = 90000

⇒ y = 90000/8

y = 11250

Hazel's share = 6y = 6(11250) = $67500

Hazel's mom's share = y = $11250

Hazel's daughter's share = y = $11250

Hazel's Mom will receive $11250
