SOLUTION

We can simply solve the above problem as follows;

Let Tom starts at a point O and ends his journey at C.

It is given that,

Speed of Tom = 2m/s

Time taken = 2 seconds

Distance travelled in 1 second = 2/2 = 1 meter

Now,

Displacement = OC

So,

OC = OAcos60° + BCcos60° + AB

= 1/2 + 1/2 + 1

= 2meters

Hence, The net displacement of Tom is 2 meters.
