in refrigerator the air is cool, the bottle coming in contact with the cool air looses energy and contracts, hence it appears to be collapsed

Answer:

Empty bottle collapses in cold conditions.

Explanation:

The empty bottle contains air molecules in it. When you put it in a refrigerator, the cold conditions in the fridge affects the air molecules in the bottle. How? Air molecules expand when they are hot and shrink when cold. Due to the shrinking of air molecules inside the bottle, it created a low pressure area inside the bottle similar to a vacuum. Thus the pressure outside the bottle crushes the bottle in the intention of reaching the low pressure area.

Remember, air in the high pressure area moves towards the air in the low pressure area.
