LET , THE PRESENT AGE OF TOM BE x,
THEREFORE , TIM'S AGE = 21 - x
AFTER 3 YEARS ,
AGE OF TOM = TWICE TIM'S AGE .
=> x + 3 = 2 ( 21 - x )
=> x + 3 = 42 - 2x
=> 3x = 39
=> x = 13
THEREFORE , TOM'S PRESENT AGE = 13 YEARS .
AND , TIM'S PRESENT AGE = 21 - 13 = 8 YEARS .
THEREFORE , TIM'S AGE = 21 - x
AFTER 3 YEARS ,
AGE OF TOM = TWICE TIM'S AGE .
=> x + 3 = 2 ( 21 - x )
=> x + 3 = 42 - 2x
=> 3x = 39
=> x = 13
THEREFORE , TOM'S PRESENT AGE = 13 YEARS .
AND , TIM'S PRESENT AGE = 21 - 13 = 8 YEARS .
