Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

The avg speed of the round trip is

2*60*50/(60 + 50) = 6000/110 mi/hr

-----------

This is similar to parallel resistors or parallel flows, but x2

Note that the avg speed is not 55 because more time is spent going 50 mi/hr.

-----------

= 600/11 mi/hr

d = r*t = 5*(600/11) miles round-trip

d = 1500/11 miles one-way

d =~ 136.4 miles

Answer:

City ~ Speed is 60 mph, Answer: Distance is 136.3636 miles, Time was 2.2727 hours

Home Speed is 50 mph, Answer: Distance is 136.3636 miles, Time was 2.7272 hours

Combined Time = 5 hours, Combined Distance is 272.7272 miles (rounded)

Average Speed of both journey’s is 54.545 mph.

(5h x 60m =300 mins +joint ratio of 11 (6 & 5) = 27.2727 ~ 27.2727 x 5 = 136 miles
