Toms of element b form hcp lattice and those of the element a occupy 2/3rd2/3rd of tetrahedral voids. What is the formula of the compound formed by the elements aa and bb ?

There are totla 6 atoms in hcp lattice... so B = 6

Now , tetrahedral voids will be = 2N = 2*6 = 12 But given , A = 2/3 * 2N = 2/3 * 12 = 8

hence , A = 8 & B=6

so Formula of the compound = A8B6 = A4B3

  • ❤.. The number of tetralhedral voids formed is equal to twice the number of atoms of element B and only 2/3rd of these are occupied by the atoms of element A.
  • ❤..Hence the ratio of the number of atoms of A and B is {2×(2/3):1 or 4:3} and the formula of the compound is {A4B3}.
