Tongs For Granny
his is a story written some years ago by Munshi Premchand.
Hamid was a poor boy. He lived with his old grandmother in a
little village. Once on Eid, Hamid woke up feeling very happy. He was

utensils and other things. His friends walked on but Hamid's attention
was caught by a pair of tongs. He saw the tongs and at once thought of
his grandmother. 'Poor Dadi does not have a pair of tongs. She burns
her fingers while making roti. If I buy these tongs for her she will be

The sweets and toys would make him happy, but the tongs would
make his grandmother happy. Hamid found greater joy in bringing
