India is a country of diversity in culture, festivals and wealth. It has cities like Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi, where many people lead luxurious lives and on the other hand there are several places, where people are extremely poor and are barely able to meet the ends.

Definition of a poorest state is defined by their per capita ;those who consume less than Rs.600 per capita per month in the villages and below Rs.860 per capita per month in the cities are considered as poorest state. 5 top poorest states in India are as follows:


1. Chhattisgarh: This is one of the poorest states in India. About one-third of Chhattisgarh’s population lies below our extreme poverty line.


2. Jharkhand: poverty is around at 36.96%. Jharkhand’s social indicators such as literacy, enrollment, infant mortality and child nutrition are below all-India average.
