Factors of 42- +1,-1,+2,-2,+3,-3,+6,-6,+7,-7,+42,-42

By trial,

Putting x+1=0

=x=( -1)

=2(-1)³-5(-1)²-19(-1)+42

=2(-1)-5(1)-(-19)+42

=-2-5+19+42

=2-5+61

=63-5

=58

as the answer is not zero we will now try x-2=0

so x=2

=2(2)³-5(2)²-19(2)+42

=2(8)-5(4)-38+42

=16-20-38+42

=58-58

=0

now we know that x-2 is a factor of the given polynomial

(note- you have to change the value of x till zero comes as answer also you can only take the factors of the last term as the value of x)

2x³-5x²-19x+42

it can be further solved by splitting method remember both the terms in the middle should be splited.
