TOPIC-- STRAIGHT LINES
1. Find the value of x, in order that the points (x, 8),(-4,2) and (5,-1) are collinear.
2. If the line through (-4,y) and (1,3) is parallel to the line through (-2,5) and (0,7);
find the value of y.
3. A quadrilateral has the vertex at the points (-4,2),(2,6),(8,5) and (9,-7). Show that
(using the concept of slope) — the midpoints of the sides of this quadrilateral are the
vertices of parallelogram.
4. Find the slope of the line which makes an angle of 30° with the positive direction
of y-axis measured anticlockwise.
5. If the line through (3,y) and (2,7) is perpendicular to the line through (-1,4) and
(1,8); find the value of y.
6. A (5,-3), B(8,2), C(0,0) are the vertices of triangle. Show that the median from A
is perpendicular to the side BC.
7. Find the equation of the straight line passing through (3,-5) and parallel to the line
joining the points (1,2) and (-3,4).
8. Find the equation of the line :
i) passing through (-2,3) and having slope - 4.
ii) passing through (-1,-2) and (-5,-2)
9. Show that the perpendicular drawn from the point (4,1) on the line joining (2,-1)
and (6,5) divide it in the ratio 5:8 internally.
10. If A(2,-2), B(1,1) and C(-1,0) be the vertex of AABC and AD | BC , find the
equation of altitude AD.
