CBSE in Collaboration with Trinity College

This initiative of CBSE collaboration with Trinity College will prove immensely beneficial in ameliorating the standard of education, especially English. CBSE has struck this collaboration keeping in mind the enhancement of the quality of communication skills of students. It had been felt that in spite of introducing many reforms in the teaching of English language, not much improvement was perceptible. English has already become the language of the world. Most of the education, research, development, etc. are accessible only through English. It was felt that if India was to develop faster, English language proficiency was a must for every Indian.

So CBSE tied up with Trinity College, London in 2013. ASL has been introduced in all CBSE-affiliated schools for Class 9 and Class 11 in an effort to integrate English language in the curriculum. As per the curriculum document for secondary schools, there is a provision of 20 marks weightage for assessing ASL Class 9 and Class 11.

This initiative has already had tremendous influence on the communication skills development of the students. The listening activity is a scientifically approved medium to introduce students to the first key input in language learning mechanics. It will help students familiarize with the standard accent and pronunciation of the language. Though English is the official language in India, still it is spoken with faulty pronunciation. The listening activities will have positive impact on the quality of improving the pronunciation all across the nation.

The speaking activities will surely have a far reaching effect on the speaking of English language in the country. Students all over the country are getting opportunity and exposure to English speaking situations. This exposure and opportunity to speak is going to improve their communication skills.

CBSE deserves all praise for having introduced this much needed reform in improving the standard of English all across India.
