This type of bone can be found in hand , knee and foot, amd their unique structure works to protect the tendon and to increase its mechanical effect. For example, patella ( knee cap ) is a Sesamoid bone.

- These bones are present where protection is needed i.e skull bones and ribs etc. The name flat bones is given for obvious reasons as these have broad surface , ideal for providing protection or as anchor points for muscles Brain and heart are saved by these bones. Scapula, ribs and skull bones are flat bones.
Irregular Bones ⸻➤
- These bones have variable shapes. The smallest bone in the human body is stapes ( ear bone ). Bones of th3 vertebral column and facial bones are Irregular bones.
