and when the angle of incidence is greater than critical angle.

Total internal reflection ( TIR ) is the phenomena of light which takes place when light travel from denser to rarer medium...
When reflection takes place some of light energy is being absorb by the surface because of which intensity ( amount of light ( brightness ) ) of light decreses...But in case of TIR , loss of energy is too small as compared with normal reflection...
This is the reason when we see any object through TIR , it actually looks brightened than normal reflection...You can checm this in ypu tube vidoes where TIR takes place by Prism and image looks brightned...
