The sum of momenta of the objects before the collision is equal to tbe sum of momenta after the collision. thus, there is no external unbalanced force acting on them. This law can be written as the total momentum of the two objects is unchanged or conserved by the collision.

m1u1 + m2u2 = m1v1 + m1v1
This is the equation conservation of momentum.
m1u1+m2u2 is the total momentum of two bodies before collision and m1v1+ m2v2 is the total momentum of the two bodies after collision.
Law of conservation of mass states that that in absence of a net external force on the system , the momentum of the system remains unchanged.
