Li+2

Electronic configuration of Li is

1 {s}^{2} 2 {s}^{1}

if it lose 2 electrons then it's config. is

1 {s}^{1}

so, now for the new configuration, no electrons in d orbital / shell

Explanation:

Total no. of degenerate orbital in 2nd shell of Li²⁺ is equal to 4

There are two sub shell in second shell of Li²⁺

1. 2s : it itself is an orbital

2. 2p : it has 3 orbitals i.e 2px, 2py and 2pz

All the four orbitals are degenerate means same energy.

Because Li²⁺ is a hydrogen like species or one electronic species.

so for one electronic species degree of degeneracy of orbitals depends on principal quantum number not for the summation of (n + l) value.
