Answer:

                      Wine                        Water               Total

Beaker A         2 X / 3                      X / 3                   X

Beaker B         2 X / 4                    3/4 * 2 X           2 X

Total             (2 /3   + 1/2 ) X          (1/3 + 3/2) X

                         7 X / 6                    11 X / 6              3 X

Beaker C         (7 X / 6)  / 3 X      = 7 / 18      wine

                        (11 X / 6) / 3 X        = 11 / 18     water

Answer:

The proportion of wine in the 3rd beaker is \frac{7}{18}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

Capacity of A = X lit,

Capacity of B = 2X lit,

Also, A contains \frac{2}{3} of wine and B contains \frac{1}{4} of wine,

If these two liquids are poured in to the 3rd beaker C,

Then, the quantity of wine in C = \frac{2}{3}\times X+\frac{1}{4}\times 2X

=\frac{2X}{3}+\frac{2X}{4}

=\frac{8X+6X}{12}

=\frac{14X}{12}

=\frac{7X}{6}\text{ lit}

Now, capacity of C = 3X lit,

Hence, the proportion of wine in C = \frac{7X/6}{3X}

=\frac{7}{18}
