- Indus valley civilisation is the one of the ancient civilisations, it was located in Pakistan and northwest India and flourished around the flood plain of the Indus River. It lasted from 5000 BC till 1500 BC.
- It is also known for its advanced and systematic town planning. Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro, Kalibangan and Rakhigadi were important towns of this civilisation. Road pattern in the towns were built from North to South and East to West in straight line and the roads intersected at right angles, small roads were 5 meters wide and the main roads were 110 metres wide.
- The Indus valley seals are the most important artefact of this civilisation, seals were used to identify the property and to stamp clay on trade goods. They were decorated with animals figures such as water buffaloes, tigers and elephants. Dancing Girl is a bronze figurine that is 11 centimetres high and shows a female in dance form.
- Standardised weights and measures, metallurgy with copper, lead and tin are some important innovations of this civilisation.
