these radioactive particles radiate various kind of particles, namely alpha particle(helium nuclei), beta particle(a neutron) and gamma particle. alpha particles and beta particles are usually harmless but gamma particles are extremely harmful. they easily penetrate through your skin and might result in the modification in our dna and cause cancer.not only humans but various fauna will be adversely affected. areas where these particles are in high concentration are banned for the common people to go.

best example is chernobyl, russia where many years back, there was a radioactive leak due to which many humans died and remaining had to suffer and had to leave the place.
