Botulinum toxin is a zinc enzyme which, inside the cytoplasm, hydrolyzes proteins like synaptobrevin, VAMP (vesicle-associated membrane protein) necessary for the migration and exocytosis of the vesicles containing acetylcholine. It inhibits the acetylcholine release.
