Burma was known as myanmar before it gained freedom from colonial rule in 1948 and become a democracy but unfortunately the democracy came to an end in 1962 by millitary Coup. After so much struggle in 1990 almost after 30 years of dictatorship the elections were held and the elections were won by the national league but the dictatorship refused to accept the results and kept the members and leaders of national league into house arrest. This was the democracy movement in Myanmar. Hope this will help

There have been many political reforms in Myanmar between 2011 - 2015. The pro democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi was released from house arrest. Her party, the National League for Democracy participated in by elections held on 1 April 2012 and won 41 out of 44 contested seats. The establishment of the National Human Rights Commission, amnesty to 200 political prisoners, institution of new labour laws, relaxation of press censorship and regulation of currency are some other reforms.
