trace the development of science and technology from the precolonial times uo to present. what have you observed
Answers
Answer:
By pre-colonial, I take it that you are referring to colonizing of North America. Circa 1500. Science prior to about 1650 was the science of the ancient Greeks. They introduced rational thought, but testing was out of the question. No value was placed on experiments. It was all thought. The church picked up this method and included it in its search for knowledge. Galileo and others suffered because they challenged the church with their observations and experiments.
Modern science grew in the late 1600s until the 1700s by valuing experimental evidence and repeated observation and testing. The Royal Society’s motto was (and still is) Nullius in Verba. On the word of no man. Skepticism was introduced to the search for knowledge. It was a big leap from the positive logic of the Greeks. The Science of the 1700s and 1800s was hands-on, from Newton to Faraday. The results of the Scientific Revolution are all around you. Massive increases in animal and plant husbandry (food). Climate controlled living environments (just try living in Tucson without air conditioning). Transportation, communication, health care (people used to live 40 years, now it is 80 years). This is what I have observed about science and technology from 1500 until about 1990.
