Several events led to the Poona Pact between Gandhi and Ambedkar.

The Dalit leaders wanted a political solution for the upliftment of their people and were not happy with mere Swaraj.

They had limited participation in the civil disobedience movement, and although Gandhi's Satyagraha sought emancipation of the Dalits, Ambedkar wanted legal and political safeguards such as reservation of seats in government service, separate electorates and education.

The idea of reservation caused him to clash with Gandhi, and these differences were resolved in the Poona Pact of 1932 as Ambedkar wanted Mahatma Gandhi to stop the fact that he was undertaking for them in Parliament.
